GETTING THE PERFORMING RIGHTS

If you're thinking about producing one of our shows with your own theatre group, please read all of this page, and the page about customising our shows, and the page about using the artwork, before you make an enquiry.

You can only perform one of our shows if you've obtained a performing rights license to do so. The only way to get these performing rights is via our publisher, Samuel French Ltd, or their authorised agents worldwide. Any enquiries must be made through them. Click on one of the logos below to access their website where you will find all the relevant contact information.

The Curious Quest for the Sandman's Sand
"Can I check the show out to see if I want to do it?"
Samuel French (or their agent) can provide you with a persual copy of the script and score, and a recording of the music, so you can check the show out before you apply for the rights. Just ask them for perusal material. You can also buy a copy of the script from Samuel French Ltd (or from amazon.co.uk by clicking one of the script covers at the side of this text). Please note that buying a copy of the script either from Samuel French Ltd or from amazon.co.uk does not include any performing rights. To do a production, you must apply for the performing rights from Samuel French Ltd or their agents. (It's also much quicker to get a script from Samuel French Ltd than from amazon.co.uk)

"Are band parts available?"
Samuel French (or their agent) can provide you with band parts for all the shows. Orchestration is available in various combinations, from plain piano/vocal scores to arrangements for small bands. More information can be found in the Composer's Notes at the beginning of every script.

Skool & Crossbones
Shake, Ripple & Roll!
"I don't have a band! Do you have any backing tracks?"
Samuel French (or their agent) can provide you with full backing tracks for all of our shows upon request. These can be used for rehearsal or performance purposes. The full recordings of each show, with vocals, that are used for perusal purposes may not be used for performance.

"I was in one of your shows. Can I buy a copy of the script / score to have as a souvenir?"
You can just buy a copy of the script from Samuel French or their agent, or by clicking one of the script covers on this page. (It's much quicker to get a script from Samuel French Ltd than from amazon.co.uk) Please do remember that buying a copy of the script does not include any performing rights. Unfortunately, there are currently no piano/vocal scores for any of our shows available to buy. The only way to get a score is to hire them from Samuel French Ltd, which you can only do if you have performing rights for the show. We regret that we cannot provide you with individual sheet music for any of our songs.

"Would you like to see a show I've written? Can you publish it for me?"

Alas, we cannot publish shows. We're writers, not publishers! However, if you're interested in learning more about writing musicals, we highly recommend that you check out Mercury Musical Developments (MMD) at their website: www.mercurymusicals.com. They support writers and composers of musical theatre in the UK and worldwide, and can give you some very valuable advice on all aspects of writing musicals and getting them published or produced.

Amongst other things, they offer a Reading Service, and you don't have to be a member to take advantage of it. Jenifer is one of the readers for MMD, and she'll be happy to have a look at your show and give you some constructive critique on it via the MMD Reading Service. You can request her by name when you apply for the Reading Service. Unfortunately, we don't have time to look at shows that do not come via MMD, but we wish you the best of luck with your writing.
